Acura’s RLX is back again for the 2014 model year and it is being showcased at the L.A. Auto Show. The production version was previewed earlier this year by a concept, but not a lot have changed since the New York Auto Show as the only changes are the smaller wheels and different trims for the bumpers. Inside the cabin it gets premium leather and various amenities found inside the Honda Accord, including the eight-inch Navigation screen and a seven-inch On-Demand Multi-Use Display touchscreen display. Other goodies include power sunroof, power tilt and telescoping steering, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink and a tri-zone automatic climate control.
The RLX is 196.1 inches long which makes it just about as long as the outgoing RL. There are some differences though as the RLX is almost two inches wider and has a two-inch longer wheelbase. This is the first vehicle wearing the Acura badge to come with Precision All-Wheel Steer which works in tandem with the Vehicle Stability Assist that has built-in traction control as well as Agile Handling Assist.
The 2014 RLX will hit showrooms next spring and will be sold with a new V6 3.5-liter direct-injected engine featuring variable cylinder management and providing an output of 310 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque. This power unit will be connected to a six-speed Sequential SportShift automatic transmission. A hybrid variant will be launched later on in 2013 that will offer a combined output of 370 hp.
