2014 Ford Transit gets a new 5-cylinder, 3.2-liter turbodiesel

The Ford Transit full-size van will soon be reaching model year 2014 and this will mark the introduction of a new engine. The Blue Oval plans on offering the 2014 Transit with a brand new 3.2-liter, 5-cylinder, Power Stroke turbodiesel engine. This announcement was made last week, before the vehicle goes on sale in late 2014. This will be the second diesel engine offered by Ford in North America as they already have the larger V8 6.7-liter Power Stroke available in the firm’s highly acclaimed F-Series Super Duty trucks that are a very big success in the United States. Ford did not reveal for the moment the output figures of this new engine certified for North America.

However, we do know that the European version of the same engine is capable of putting out 197 hp and a maximum torque of 347 lb-ft. This engine is going to be connected to a 6-speed automatic transmission called Ford 6R80.

The new 5-cylinder, 3.2-liter Power Stroke engine is being manufactured at the company’s Struandale Engine Plant located in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. From that place it will be exported to Ford’s Kansas City Assembly Plant situated in Claycomo, Mo. This is the place where the Blue Oval makes the Transit van.
