2016 BMW X1 revealed with standard front-wheel drive

The 2016 BMW X1 has made its first online appearance and will be going on sale this fall in Europe and U.S. Compared to the model it replaces, the new version comes with a standard front-wheel drive layout but some of the versions will be available with an xDrive AWD system. It looks more in line with other SAVs such as the bigger X3 and X5 brothers as BMW has decided to design the X1 more like a crossover with plastic body cladding and a spoiler mounted on the tailgate. It also has a more sloped roofline, a prominent front grille and LED-infused headlights.

Stepping inside the cabin, it gets a freestanding iDrive infotainment system and can be configured with a plethora of goodies such as Dakota leather upholstery, Oxide Silver trim, glossy black accents as well as Fineline Stream or Oak Grain wood trim.

Under the hood it gets a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with 192 PS & 280 Nm or a beefier version with 231 PS & 350 Nm. On the diesel side we find a four-cylinder 2.0-liter offered in three states of tune: 150 PS & 330 Nm, 190 PS & 400 Nm and 231 PS & 450 Nm. These will be joined later on by a three-cylinder 1.5-liter with 136 PS in gasoline guise and 116 PS on diesel.

The 2016 BMW X1 is programmed to go on sale in November in Germany while a U.S. launch is set for this fall.
