Mercedes-AMG GT S DTM Safety Car breaks cover

The 2015 Mercedes-AMG GT S DTM Safety Car has made its online debut and it’s now heading to its first official race. It will be seen in the metal for the very first time today at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz and will serve as a replacement for the C63 AMG Black Series. Behind the wheel of the new safety car will be racing driver Jürgen Kastenholz who will be in charge of controlling the car’s massive 510 hp & 650 Nm output. It needs just 3.8 seconds until 100 km/h before topping out at 310 km/h so it’s one of the fastest cars Daimler is selling nowadays.

Compared to the regular version, the Mercedes-AMG GT S DTM Safety Car comes with a custom air scoop made from carbon fiber on top of which sits a light bar featuring LEDs. The company says the air scoop has been extensively tested in the wind tunnel in order to obtain the best results to offer an optimized aerodynamic airflow to the fixed rear aerofoil while at the same time generate the least possible airstream resistance.

The fixed rear aerofoil is part of an optional aerodynamics kit available for the road-going version and it also includes an extra front spoiler meant to lower lift on both axles. It should be mentioned these two items have been fitted as standard on the limited-run Edition 1.
