Spied – Mercedes S63 Cabriolet testing on public roads

The highly anticipated Mercedes S63 Cabriolet was spotted performing final testing rounds in Germany. It was still carrying some camouflage, but we pretty much know how it will look like as the body will have a lot in common with the coupe, albeit with some changes at the back as the trunk will have to be modified in order to accommodate the soft top when not in position. The biggest change between the two will obviously be the removal of the fixed metal roof which will be replaced by an electrically retractable fabric top.

This particular near-production prototype is actually the S63 version which means that it comes with a beefy 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that generates 577 bhp (430 kW) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque. There’s no word about performances but it will likely be a tad slower than the coupe which sprints to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.2 seconds. We are making this assumption based on the fact that the cabriolet is going to be a bit heavier than the coupe due to the added complexity of the roof.

The Mercedes S63 Cabriolet will likely cost somewhere in the region of €200,000 and will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month along with the other versions, including the V12-powered S65 model.
