Kia shows off new Optima GT in Frankfurt

Kia is stepping up its game with the new Optima GT currently on display at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This is basically the European version of the US-spec Optima SX as it uses the same turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine producing 245 PS at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 353 Nm available from 1,350 rpm up to 4,000 rpm. We are dealing of course with a power unit that meets Euro 6 regulations and comes equipped with direct-injection technology while in terms of performance it allows the mid-size sedan to run the 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.4 seconds on its way onto a top speed of 240 km/h.

According to Kia, the 2016 Optima GT (Euro-spec) will need 8.2 liters of fuel for every 100 km which means that it will have CO2 emissions of 191 g/km. Besides the stronger engine, the vehicle also gets a sportier body, new alloys, a returned suspension, bigger brakes and the new Electronically-Controlled Suspension system providing individualized damping force for each wheel. In addition, Kia’s engineers have also fiddled around with the rack-mounted motor-driven power steering while the cabin has also gone through an array of minor changes.
