Thunder Power brings electric sedan concept to IAA

Taiwanese automaker Thunder Power has introduced an electric sedan concept at the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). It serves as a sneak preview for a production version programmed to go on sale sometime in 2017 with a curvy body designed by Zagato. It comes fitted with LED headlights and a sporty rear end that hosts a built-in spoiler while inside the cabin there’s an upscale fit and finish with high-end leather upholstery, metal accents and a wood trim. The instrument cluster and infotainment system are joined and form one large customizable touchscreen display as part of the TP-Touch system developed specifically for this concept.

In terms of power, the base model has an electric motor generating 312 PS and 320 Nm of torque which enables the zero-emission sedan to run the 0-100 km/h sprint in less than 6 seconds before topping out at 210 km/h. A high-performance version has a beefier electric motor with 435 PS and 560 Nm which lowers the sprint time less than 5 seconds while the top speed rises to 250 km/h.

Both Thunder Power electric sedans share a 125 kWh lithium-ion battery which has enough juice for a maximum range of more than 404 miles (650 km). A full recharge takes less than six hours while a fast charging mode ensures 300 km of range after less than 30 minutes of charge while a full charge takes about an hour.
