Toyota brings the S-FR concept to Tokyo Motor Show

After showing us the S-FR concept a couple of weeks ago, Toyota has unveiled the little sports car in the metal at the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show. It has a rather goofy appearance but it’s still cute with its rounded body and those MINI-like headlights while its petite dimensions make it look like a toy car. Although it’s just a concept for now, the S-FR is rumored to actually go into production next year and will have virtually the same exterior and interior design. It’s tipped to weigh just 980 kg and will be offered exclusively with a rear-wheel drive layout and a six-speed manual transmission.

The engine rumored to power the small coupe is a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder taken from the Corolla sold in Japan, but updated with direct injection and other revisions to help increase output to 130 PS and 148 Nm. The S-FR concept has a double wishbone front and rear suspension which will likely be implemented in the production version as well while the interior cabin seen here looks just about ready to be offered on a large scale.

An official reveal could occur in the first half of 2016 and chances are the Toyota will sell this model in United States as a Scion S-FR.
