Detroit Electric SP:01 enters production

Back in January this year, the Detroit Electric SP:01 was revealed in production guise and now the model has finally entered the assembly line. Based on the Lotus Exige, the fully electric sportscar is manufactured in United Kingdom at the company’s manufacturing facilities in Leamington Spa and the model is scheduled to go on sale in Europe and Asia in the following weeks, with pricing to be announced closer to the car’s launch. This red example pictured here is actually the first production unit and will be headed to the export market.

The Detroit Electric SP:01 will be offered in an entry-level Pure trim and a range-topping Performance version, with the latter being rated at 286 PS and 280 Nm which will ensure a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 3.9 seconds when the car is fitted with the optional 6-speed manual transmission, but customers will also be able to get the car with a single- or twin-speed automatic gearbox.

It comes with a 37 kWh battery which will last for about 179 miles (288 km) and Detroit Electric says the car has bi-directional charge and discharge capabilities, so it can actually charge your home when not in use.
