Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid is the most fuel-efficient sedan in U.S.

The Japanese automaker Honda has released more details about the already available 2014 Accord Plug-In Hybrid which is being described as the “most fuel-efficient sedan in America”.

It has been fitted with an Atkinson-cycle 2.0-liter engine, a 124 kW (166 hp) electric motor and a 6.7 kWh lithium-ion battery.

Thanks to this hardware setup, the sedan is able to offer a range in electric mode of up to 21 km (13 miles) while the EPA says it can return 115 MPGe.

Once the gasoline engine kicks in, the Honda Accord Plug-In Hybrid is capable of doing 47 mpg US in the city, 46 mpg US on the highway and 46 mpg US in the combined cycle.

After the battery is entirely depleted, it takes approximately three hours to recharge it to its full capacity by using a 120V outlet. Honda is also offering for more money the optional 240V charger which can do the same job in less than 60 minutes.

Already on sale at certain dealerships in New York and California, the 2014 Honda Accord Plug-In Hybrid has a starting price of $39,780.
