Volkswagen is teasing the Golf VII R

The German automaker Volkswagen has released a teaser for the upcoming Golf VII R which we assume will be shown at first in a near-production concept form. The online unveiling is set for February 11, while the first public outing will probably occur at the beginning of March when the 2013 edition of the Geneva Motor Show will start.

As for the production model, VW will probably decide to bring it in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show but after we’ll see the concept, there won’t be any significant surprises to wait for until September.

Rumors circulating the Internet are suggesting that the seventh-gen Golf R will come with a 2.0-liter TFSI EA888 engine generating an approximate output of 290 hp (216 kW). Chances are it will be linked to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG which will transfer the power through a Haldex AWD system.

By looking at the teaser from VW, we can only assume the Golf VII R will be capable of reaching a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). This top speed will most likely be electronically limited. The car should go on sale at the beginning of 2014, with prices in Germany beginning at about 38,000 euros.
