2014 US-spec BMW 328d fuel economy figures published

Americans aren’t really big fans of diesel engines but recently the situation has started to change as more and more automakers are offering their models with these frugal engines. One such car company is BMW who is now offering a diesel-powered 3-Series in the form of the 328d. EPA says the rear-wheel drive sedan can return 32 mpg in the city and 45 mpg on the highway, which means in the combined cycle it should do 37 mpg. Opt for the all-wheel drive xDrive sedan and it does 31 mpg city / 43 mpg highway / 35 mpg combined.

BMW USA can also sell you a 328d Sports Wagon available exclusively with xDrive and in this case you get the exact same mileage as the aforementioned xDrive sedan. All three versions come with the same 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbodiesel mill outputting 181 bhp (135 kW) and 379 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque. An eight-speed automatic gearbox works with the engine to send power to either the rear wheels or to both axles.

As far as pricing is concerned, RWD sedan costs $38,600, followed by the xDrive sedan at $40,600 and the xDrive Sports Wagon which will set you back at least $42,950.
