Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan concept goes official

The concept you are looking at is a near-production preview of the Volkswagen Golf Plus which will be out sometime next year. Dubbed as the Golf Sportsvan, the larger Golf is being described by the German marque as a “compact minivan” which is 134mm longer than the previous iteration of the Golf Plus, and at the same time it’s 83mm longer than the regular Golf VII hatchback. Volkswagen mentions that compared to the most recent Golf, the Sportsvan concept is 126mm taller, 8mm wider and has a 48mm longer wheelbase.

The concept offers a generous 498-liter cargo capacity, a figure which has increased by 74 liters compared to the previous Golf Plus. Its rear bench adopts a 60:40 split configuration and the best thing about it is that it can slide back and forth by 180mm, thus increasing storage space by an additional 87 liters. The concept’s front passenger seat can be folded forward flat to create a 2484mm load space.

Under the hood it can get one of the six gasoline and diesel engines developed by Volkswagen, with power ranging from the base 85 HP to the range-topping 150 HP. There’s also an economical 1.6 TDI BlueMotion model that produces 110 HP and consumes just 3.7 liters / 100 km.
