Acura launches 2016 MDX with mechanical updates

Acura has launched this week the 2016 MDX which comes with an array of mechanical upgrades. The exterior design has been carried over from the previous model year while inside the cabin there’s a Multi-View Rear Camera with Dynamic Guidelines, along with Siri voice recognition and a frameless rear view mirror. The model also boasts a new driver’s seat which moves 35mm rearward when the driver door is opened while the shifter mounted on the center console has been removed to make room for a shift-by-wire gear selector equipped with push-button controls.

Power comes from the familiar V6 3.5-liter engine which now works with a newly developed 9-speed automatic gearbox featuring Sequential SportShift technology. It’s 30 kg lighter than the old 6-speed automatic and is also capable of changing gears 25 percent quicker.

The 2016 MDX has received an improved SH-AWD (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) system that has also shaved off some weight and now provides better torque vectoring capabilities. Safety features include Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keeping Assist System, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow,  Rear Cross Traffic Monitor, Blind Spot Information and Road Departure Mitigation – all part of an expanded AcuraWatch kit.

Sales of the 2016 MDX have already started and the model begins at $42,865 without taking into account the additional $920 destination charge.
