Audi announces R8 e-tron production version

Besides unveiling the second generation R8 V10 and R8 V10 Plus, Audi has also announced the R8 e-tron in production guise. Scheduled to go on sale later this year, the electrified supercar will be powered by a pair of electric motors delivering a combined output of 462 HP (340 kW) and 920 Nm (679 lb-ft) of torque which will be enough for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 3.9 seconds. Top speed will be electronically limited to 130 mph (210 km/h) and optionally to 155 mph (250 km/h).

Featuring  a newly developed T-shaped battery with a 92 kWh capacity, the 2015 Audi R8 e-tron will provide a maximum range of 279 miles (450 km) and once it runs out of juice a full recharge using the on-board Combined Charging System will take less than two hours.

Details about the price are not available at this point but Audi does say the R8 e-tron will be built to order and will go on sale later this year. Chances are it will cost significantly more than the R8 V10 Plus which starts at €187,400.
