Cadillac ELR production version introduced

Previewed by the Converj concept, Cadillac has officially revealed the production version of the 2014 ELR. Essentially, a luxurious two-door coupe version of the Volt, the ELR is 186 inches long, 72.7 inches wide and 55.9 inches tall, making it longer, wider and shorter than the Volt. The wheelbase is also slightly longer as it measures 106.1 inches. It comes with a hybrid powertrain featuring a naturally-aspirated 1.4-gasoline engine pumping out 84 HP, a 16.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and two electric motors, generating a combined power output of 181 HP and a maximum output of 207 HP with an instant torque of 400 Nm (295 lb-ft).

Thanks to this setup, the 2014 Cadillac ELR is able to reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in “around eight seconds” and can hit a top speed of 100 mph (160 km/h). In electric mode, the two-door coupe can be driven for up to 35 miles (56 km) and with the range-extending gasoline engine it can do up to 300 miles (480 km).

It is scheduled to enter production late this year and will go on sale at the beginning of 2014. Cadillac did not reveal any info about the price tag of the ELR but various sources are indicating a $60,000 sticker.
