Chevrolet reveals Bolt EV concept in Detroit

Chevrolet has introduced the Bolt EV concept in Detroit during this year’s NAIAS edition. It’s an attractive five-door hatchback that if produced would be a direct rival to the BMW i3 with an interesting design featuring short front and rear overhangs. The model adopts a lightweight construction thanks to the extensive use of aluminum, magnesium and carbon fiber while woven mesh was also used during development. Chevrolet says the vehicle’s ventilated rear fenders have been aerodynamically optimized and this has improved the car’s range.

Featuring LED headlights and taillights, the Bolt EV concept comes with a spacious and futuristic interior cabin featuring a transparent roof which makes the cabin feel roomier. Chevrolet has installed slim seats which sit on exposed aluminum pedals while up front there’s a minimalistic dashboard featuring a floating layout and incorporating a large ten-inch touchscreen display.

Hardware specifications are not available but Chevrolet said that it has a maximum range of more than 200 miles (322 km) and that if produced it would cost around $30,000 for the base model.
