Honda unleashes Civic Type R with 310 HP

Honda has finally taken the wraps off the Civic Type R production version which is currently being exhibited in Geneva. Adopting a substantially more aggressive body compared to the regular model, the hot hatchback comes with a large fixed rear wing, ventilated front fenders and a quad exhaust system while the big 19-inch wheels are wrapped around in 235/35 R19 tires. Also noticeable are the flat underbody panels and extended side skirts while inside the cabin it boasts suede-like sport seats (with red stitching), machined aluminum gear knob and a leather-covered sport steering wheel.

Its heart and soul is a four-cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine pushing out 310 HP (228 kW) and a peak torque of 400 Nm (295 lb-ft). All that power is sent to the front wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox which allows the Honda Civic Type R sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in as little as 5.7 seconds on its way to a top speed of 167 mph (270 km/h).

Honda says the model has managed to lap the Nürburgring in 7 minutes and 50.63 seconds which makes it the quickest front-wheel drive production car to lap the Nordschleife. These performance come at a price as in UK the mode carries a starting price of £29,995, with sales scheduled to kick off this summer.
