Lexus LF-FC concept lands in Tokyo as next-gen LS preview

The Lexus LF-FC was introduced earlier today at the 44th edition of Japan’s Tokyo Motor Show. It previews next year’s all-new 2016 LS and in this conceptual guise it’s 5,300 mm long, 2,000 mm wide and 1,410 mm tall, with large 21-inch aluminum wheels that have CFRP rims. The huge spindle grille occupies most of the front fascia and we also notice those LED daytime running lights that are shaped like the Nike logo. The inclined roofline gives the side profile the impression we are dealing with a four-door coupe and there’s an aggressive rear end with a beefy bumper and interesting LED taillights shaped like a boomerang.

Motivation is provided by a high-output fuel cell power system that drives the rear axle and also the two in-wheel front motors which means the Lexus LF-FC is actually an all-wheel drive concept. There’s no word about power just yet, but Toyota’s premium marque is telling us the hydrogen fuel tanks have a T-shaped formation while the fuel cell stack has been installed at the back – all for the purpose of granting the concept with an optimal weight distribution.

The conventionally-powered next-gen Lexus LS will be out next year and chances are in 2017 or 2018 the fuel cell version derived from this concept will hit the assembly line.
