Mercedes-AMG GT officially unleashed

Following an endless string of teasers, Mercedes and AMG have finally revealed the GT, a replacement for the SLS AMG but smaller and lighter. Looking like a modern SL300 Gullwing but without the cool doors, the GT adopts a sleek and elegant design with a prominent front grille, rakish windscreen and big LED headlights. There’s also a unique sloped roofline, a deployable rear spoiler and slender taillights equipped with sequential LED turn signals. The base AMG GT has 19-inch wheels whereas the AMG GT S is equipped with 19- or 20-inch rims.

Its heart and soul is a newly developed V8 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine rated at 462 PS and 600 Nm in the AMG GT where it works with a dual-clutch 7-speed gearbox. This hardware arrangement grants a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 4 seconds prior to hitting an electronically-capped top speed of 189 mph (304 km/h).

Opt for the more powerful AMG GT S and you get the same engine tweaked to unleash 510 PS and 650 Nm. This one will cover the sprint in 3.8 seconds and will be able to reach a maximum speed (electronically limited) of 193 mph (310 km/h).

Stopping power in the AMG GT is provided by 360mm ventilated and perforated brake discs while the S has bigger 390mm front discs matched with red calipers. For more money the customer can get optional 402mm front & 360mm rear carbon ceramic brake discs. It should be mentioned the AMG GT has a mechanical rear-axle locking differential as opposed to the S which comes with an electronic locking rear differential with AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension featuring electronically-controlled dampers.
