Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe breaks cover

The Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe has made its debut online prior to a public reveal set for January at the North American International Auto Show. Set to be an adversary of the second-gen BMW X6, the GLE Coupe combines the crossover and coupe body styles but the end result is somewhat questionable as not many people will like a high-riding vehicle that has a sloping roofline and short front & rear overhangs. The model also comes with plastic body cladding, dual exhaust arrangement, chrome trim and taillights looking like the ones on the S-Class Coupe. It sits on 20-inch wheels but larger 21- and 22-inch alloys are optionally available.

Opt for the GLE 450 AMG variant and you get a beefier AMG body kit, 21-inch rims, adaptive damping system and an AIRMATIC air suspension with an automatic lowering function reducing the ride height when driving at higher speeds. It also benefits from a 9-speed automatic gearbox with five driving modes while on the inside there are Nappa leather-wrapped sports steering wheel, carbon fiber trim, stainless steel pedals and piano black accents.

The Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe will also be available as a GLE 350d model with optional 4MATIC delivering 258 HP & 620 Nm. The GLE 400 AMG packs 333 HP & 480 Nm whereas the GLE 450 AMG has 367 HP & 520 Nm from a twin-turbo V6 3.0-liter engine.

Deliveries of the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe will commence in the first half of 2015.
