Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series unleashed

Mercedes-Benz has finally revealed the highly anticipated SLS AMG Black Series. It pack an additional 39 HP in comparison to the SLS AMG GT so it now offers 622 HP. The torque figure has dropped by 11 lb-ft to 468 lb-ft, while the 0-62 mph sprint is completed in 3.6 seconds (0.1 seconds quicker than the standard SLS).

At the heart of the vehicle is a V8 6.2-liter engine that can now rev up to 8,000 rpm and comes with a new mapping, camshafts, modified air intake, oil bores, crank assembly, additional crankshaft bearings and a new oil pump.

The list of changes doesn’t end here as the car also comes with a titanium exhaust system which is 17 kg lighter and provides a more aggressive sound as well. There’s also an additional gas-filled strut brace and various weight-saving measures were implemented. The power unit is connected to a dual clutch AMG Speedshift DCT seven-speed gearbox with four drive modes and a lower response time.

The car now rides on a new set of front ten-spoke 19-inch alloys with 275/35 R19 tires and 20-inch rear wheels with 325/30 R20 Michelin Pilot Cup 2 rubbers. The stopping power is provided by the carbon-ceramic brakes measuring 15.8 inches front and 14.2 inches rear, with a 40 percent lower curb weight than the stock steel/aluminum discs.
