MG GTS breaks cover, will be sold in China

The MG GTS has been revealed today in China ahead of a market launch planned for the first half of 2015. It’s an attractive crossover which was previewed by MG back in 2013 at the Auto Shanghai through the CS concept but the production version looks a bit toned down. Upon launch it will be offered exclusively with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine outputting 217 bhp (162 kW) and a peak torque of 349 Nm (258 lb-ft). The engine is coupled to a 6-speed dual clutch gearbox and an on-demand AWD setup. MG says the GTS crossover needs eight seconds to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill.

Sometime next year, the GTS will also gain MG’s new range of gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines, including a tiny 1.0-liter 3-cylinder and bigger 4-cylinder engines which will have a displacement of 1.4 and 1.5 liters. There’s also going to be a more basic dual clutch transmission capable of coping with a maximum torque of 223 Nm (165 lb-ft).
