MINI Paceman JCW heading to Detroit Motor Show

MINI has revealed the high-end John Cooper Works version of the Paceman. Scheduled to make its public debut next month during the Detroit Motor Show, the Paceman JCW borrows the engine from the Countryman JCW. This would have to be a turbocharged 1.6-liter unit pumping out 215 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque, with an additional 17 lb-ft available with overboost. Thanks to this hardware, the vehicle needs only 6.9 seconds to perform the 0-62 mph sprint and it can hit a top speed of 140 mph. It benefits from a sport chassis which makes it sit 10mm lower than the standard variant and also comes with several suspension upgrades.

On the center console of the 2013 MINI Paceman John Cooper Works (JCW) is a Sport button which if pressed it will sharpen the throttle response, modify the exhaust note and also stiffen the steering a little bit. For the variants equipped with an automatic transmission, by pressing this button it will shorten the shift times.

It is important to mention that this is an all-wheel drive car that sends half the power to the rear wheels during normal driving via an electromagnetic center differential, while in extreme conditions the rear axle can receive the entire horsepower available. The car is sitting on 18-inch alloy wheels, while a larger 19-inch set is available as an extra option.

It will arrive in UK showrooms in mid-March at a starting price of 29,535 pounds.
