All-new Mazda2 (Demio) revealed

Mazda has taken the wraps of the all-new Mazda2 which in Japan is commercialized with the “Demio” nameplate. Essentially a production variant of the Hazumi concept, the 2015 Mazda2 adopts the company’s well-known Kodo design language so it’s no wonder it looks a lot like its larger brothers, the Mazda3 and Mazda6. The interior cabin also shows familiar cues as it has just about the same minimalistic layout with very few buttons and knobs as most of them have been replaced by a touchscreen display providing just about all the necessary information.

2015 Mazda2-1

Details about the engine lineup have not been provided but we already know the 2015 Mazda2 will go on sale with a brand new SKYACTIV-D 1.5-liter diesel engine outputting 105 PS (77 kW) at 4,000 rpm and a peak torque of 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) available between 1,500 rpm and 2,500 rpm. A SKYACTIV-G 1.5-liter will also be available in different power stages (depending on market) and we expect both engines to work with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox or an optional automatic transmission.

Mazda did not say anything about the car’s proportions but we remind you the aforementioned Hazumi concept measured 4070mm in length, 1730mm in width and 1450mm in height while the wheelbase was 2585mm long.
