Refreshed Mercedes CLS 63 AMG brings more power

Today was quite busy for the Germans at Mercedes-Benz since not only they’ve unveiled the new E63 AMG but they also launched the updated CLS 63 AMG in both its four-door coupe and Shooting Brake variants. Power comes from the same bi-turbo V8 5.5-liter engine that has been reworked to unleash 557 HP (410 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 531 lb-ft (720 Nm) of torque available between 1,750 and 5,250 rpm. The coupe does the 0-62 mph sprint in 4.2 seconds while the SB variant is 0.1 seconds slower. Mercedes is selling the updated CLS 63 AMG with the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system which performs the sprint in 3.7 seconds (3.8 for wagon).

Just like the E63 AMG, the new CLS 63 AMG gets a 4MATIC S-Model variant which is powered by the same engine but further tuned to output 585 HP (430 kW) at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) available from 1,750 rpm to 5,000 rpm. The four-door coupe rockets to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds while its Shooting Brake counterpart does it in 3.7 seconds. Regardless of the variant, all models are electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h).

Mercedes will start selling the rear-wheel drive model in April, while in June they’ll commence deliveries of the 4MATIC and S-Model editions.
