Renaultsport Clio showcased at Paris Motor Show

This is the new version of the Renaultsport Clio 200 that has suffered some serious modifications in comparison to the model it is set to replace in the French carmaker’s lineup. Showcased in Paris along with the regular fourth-gen Clio, this hotter version will be sold only with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine and a dual-clutch 6-speed automatic transmission, unlike the previous model that had a normally aspirated engine and a manual gearbox. The reason why Renault decided to go this way is because they wanted to provide this version with a higher “sporting driving experience.” Inside the cabin it gets sports bucket seats that for more money can be wrapped in leather. As standard, it gets the R-Link infotainment system, USB, Bluetooth and a bespoke instrument panel.

This 1.6-liter turbocharged engine is a new development from Renault and it is capable of generating 197 hp at 6,000 rpm. The outgoing model is motivated by a normally-aspirated 2.0-liter engine that produces the same amount of power but at 7,200 rpm so with the new model you get the full power earlier. The torque figure is also up by 19 lb-ft to 177 lb-ft, in comparison to the previous 158 lb-ft level. The old model reaches the peak torque at 5,400 rpm, whereas its replacement gets there at only 1,750 rpm.

The engine is mated to an EDC – Efficient Dual Clutch transmission developed by Renaultsport and can be manually controlled with the help of the shifters mounted on the steering wheel. The gear changes are done in only 150 milliseconds when the Race mode is activated. Thanks to the switch to a smaller turbo engine, the car’s CO2 emissions have dropped by approximately 25%.

The stopping power of the new Renaultsport Clio is provided by the front 320mm discs that are 8mm bigger than before. The car will be offered with two chassis settings: Sport and Cup. The latter provides a 5mm lower ride height and it is 15 percent stiffer in comparison to the Sport. As standard, the vehicle comes equipped with 17-inch alloys while for more money clients can opt for 18-inch alloy wheels.
