Subaru WRX S4 launched in Japan

Subaru has taken the wraps off the WRX S4 which will be sold exclusively at home in Japan. This is essentially the JDM-spec variant of the 2015 WRX but comes with unique 18-inch alloys and minor exterior trim tweaks matched with interior red stitching, metallic accents and piano black inserts. It can also be distinguished by its LED daytime running lights bars, a more prominent spoiler lip at the front which combined provide the model with a more upscale look both inside and out.

There are some changes underneath the hood as the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder packs 300 PS at 5,600 rpm and 400 Nm in this JDM version whereas in the international model it churns 272 PS and 349 Nm of torque. In United States, the engine can be mated either to a standard six-speed manual gearbox or an optional Lineartronic CVT while in Japan it can only be had with the latter.

Needless to say, the Subaru WRX S4 boasts the firm’s well-known Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system which encompasses variable torque distribution technology for optimal power delivery and traction regardless of terrain. The model can already be ordered throughout Subaru’s Japanese dealerships.
