Toyota will end production of the Prius Plug-in Hybrid in June while a successor is expected to come out in the second half of 2016. The announcement of the model’s demise was made recently by Nathan Kokes of Toyota Motor Sales USA in the Advanced Technology Vehicle Marketing who went on to specify the company is working very hard on a replacement for the mid-size plug-in hybrid model. However, taking into account the regular next-gen Prius has been delayed, the plug-in hybrid variant will suffer the same fate and is now expected to go on sale in the fall of 2016 as a 2017MY.
The current Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid is powered by a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine working closely together with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack which has a 4.4 kWh battery. It has a combined output of 136 PS and consumes just 2.1 liters / 100 km while emitting 49 g/km. Toyota says it needs 10.7 seconds to complete the 0-100 km/h sprint and will top out at 180 km/h.
