Toyota has provided more details about the Yaris Hybrid-R concept which will be presented to the public in September at the IAA show in Frankfurt. The interesting concept is powered by a 4-cylinder, 1.6-liter turbocharged engine outputting 300 bhp (223 kW). This conventional gasoline engine provides motivation to the front wheels, while two electric motors with 60 bhp (44 kW) each will drive the rear axle. Thanks to this setup, the Yaris Hybrid-R concept offers a combined output of 420 bhp (313 kW). When road mode is selected the electric motors provide 40 bhp (29 kW) of boost for ten seconds.
When the driver selects track mode, those two electric motors unleash their full potential and deliver 60 bhp (44 kW) for up to five seconds. While the car is braking, those two electric motors will work as generators and can store the energy in a super capacitor.
There’s also a third electric motor which will act as generator and is mounted between the 6-speed gearbox and engine. This motor’s job is to recharge the super capacitor during deceleration. In addition, it will drive the rear electric motors while the car is accelerated.
