Volkswagen brings C Coupe GTE concept to Auto Shanghai

Volkswagen is showcasing these days at Auto Shanghai 2015 the C Coupe GTE concept. Tailored to the Chinese market, the five-meter long sedan has a long 3001mm wheelbase and rides on 22-inch alloy wheels while the body’s width stands at 1930mm. If turned into a production car, the model would be slotted above the Passat and below the range-topping Phaeton. The concept’s styling is a sign of what’s to come for the design of future high-end models fitted with the Volkswagen badge. The interior is an evolution of the Passat B8 and benefits from a rear-seat entertainment system.

Motivation of the Volkswagen C Coupe GTE concept is provided by a TSI 4-cylinder engine working together with an 8-speed automatic gearbox that houses an electric motor. The combustion engine is rated at 210 PS whereas the electric motor develops 124 PS, enabling a combined output of 245 PS and a maximum torque of 500 Nm.

The on-board lithium-ion battery allows the vehicle to travel for 50 km solely on electric power while as a hybrid it can cover in excess of 800 km. The C Coupe GTE concept needs 8.6 seconds until 100 km/h and will top out at 232 km/h (130 km/h in electric mode) while fuel consumption is of only 2.3 liters / 100 km, with 55 g/km of CO2 emissions.
