Volkswagen launches all-new Tiguan in Frankfurt

Volkswagen has introduced this week in Frankfurt their all-new Tiguan compact crossover based on the MQB platform. Compared to the model it replaces, the next generation is 60mm longer and 30mm wider and it has been lowered by 33 mm. It has lost more than 50 kg while the wheelbase has been stretched by 77 mm to 2,681 mm. Thanks to the added length between the axles, on the inside there’s now more space as the rear knee room is up by 29 mm while the trunk can now hold an extra 145 liters, for a grand total of 615 liters with the rear seats in position or 1,665 liters once the rear bench is folded.

The all-new Tiguan is going to be powered by four TSI engines with 125, 150, 180 and 220 PS as well as by four TDI units rated at 115, 150, 190 and 240 PS. Depending on engine selection, Volkswagen is providing a front-wheel drive system or their 4MOTION all-wheel drive arrangement with fifth generation Haldex coupling.

There’s also going to be an R-Line version (the white one) with Sebring 19-inch wheels, sportier body, glossy black diffuser and a two-tone roof spoiler. Inside it will have cloth & microfiber upholstery (or optional Vienna leather), stainless steel pedal caps, aluminum door sill guards as well as a black headliner and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with the R-Line logo.

This is a five-seat model, but a more spacious seven-seater is scheduled to come out in the fall of 2016.
