Volkswagen launches facelifted Passat in United States

Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the facelifted Passat for the U.S. market where it will go on sale in the weeks to come. While the Europeans have the all-new Passat for more than a year, Americans will have to settle with a facelifted variant of the old generation that now adopts a more prominent front grille with four bars, along with different bumpers and optional LED technology for both the headlights and taillight. There’s also more chrome trim on the outside along with a different shape for the trunk while the newly added R-Line version gains sportier bumpers, a rear diffuser and bespoke side skirts. It also has some black accents and rides on anthracite 19-inch rims.

As far as the interior is concerned, Volkswagen of America has installed a redesigned instrument panel, better materials and a new steering wheel while chrome accents and a piano black trim have been added as well to spice up the cabin. Newly added options include keyless access trunk, heated rear seats and a revised infotainmenet system with USB, Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink capabilities.

There aren’t any changes underneath the hood so the facelifted Passat for United States will be offered with the same 1.8 TSI, 2.0 TDI and a beefier 3.6-liter V6.

Volkswagen of America is asking $22,440 for the base 2016 Passat.
