Volkswagen launches Golf GTI Clubsport production version

Volkswagen has decided to prepare a production version of the Golf GTI Clubsport concept. It uses the same four-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbo as the regular model but it has gained some extra punch as it’s now capable of producing 265 PS (195 kW) and with the overboost function activated you get more than 290 PS (213 kW) for about ten seconds. All that power is sent to the front wheels through either a standard 6-speed manual or an optional 7-speed DSG. If you go for the former, the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) task will take 6 seconds whereas with the latter the sprint is done in 5.9 seconds. Both configurations are electronically capped at 155 mph (250 km/h).

Built to celebrate the Golf GTI’s 40th anniversary, this hotter Clubsport edition rides on bespoke 18-inch alloys but you can upgrade to an optional 19-inch set. It comes with a slightly sportier body adorned by a black side strip to pay tribute to the first Golf GTI that came out back in 1976. Other tweaks worth mentioning include the glossy black rear diffuser, chrome exhaust tips, dark red LED taillights and a few cabin upgrades like new door sill plates with GTI lettering, floor mats with red edging, racing bucket seats and a new steering wheel.

The 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport production version will be revealed to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany next week.
