Volkswagen reveals Cross Coupe GTE concept in Detroit

Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the Cross Coupe GTE concept in Detroit at 2015 NAIAS. It serves as a sneak preview for a forthcoming seven-seater crossover set to be commercialized in North America and is envisioned here with only five seats and a slightly aggressive body with LED headlights and an aluminum front grille. Also noticeable are the glossy black accents, muscular fenders, spoiler mounted on the tailgate, along with a sloping roofline and large 22-inch rims.

On the inside it gets Nappa semi-aniline leather-wrapped seats, aluminum and glossy black accents as well as a touchscreen climate control system. The Cross Coupe GTE concept has been envisioned with a digital instrument cluster and a latest generation infotainment system packing a generous 10.1-inch touchscreen display.

In terms of power, Volkswagen has installed a V6 3.6-liter engine, two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery which has a capacity of 14.1 kWh. This plug-in hybrid arrangement grants the Cross Coupe GTE concept with a combined output of 355 bhp (264 kW) and 379 Nm (280 lb-ft). It’s enough to allow the vehicle sprint to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 6 seconds and return 70 MPGe while in electric mode it has a modest range of 20 miles (32 km).
