Kia has taken the wraps off the 2015 Soul EV at this year’s Chicago Auto Show. This is the first time ever when the Soul gets an electric version and it can be visually distinguished by its two-tone exterior paint scheme along with a different front fascia encompassing a built-in charging port in the grille. Other than that, the vehicle adopts LED daytime running lights, projector beam headlights, 16-inch alloys wrapped around in super low rolling resistance tires, along with the compulsory “Eco Electric” badging.
On the inside there are cloth seats with blue accent stitching, as well as a GPS navigation system, EV-specific climate control, a rearview camera and a power driver’s seat. The 2015 Kia Soul EV also comes with Bluetooth support, cruise control, along with a 3.5-inch OLED display which provides the driver with details concerning charging time and energy flow.
Its heart and soul is a 109 bhp / 210 lb-ft electric motor coupled to a 27 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery which grants the vehicle with a maximum range of 80-100 miles. It will do the 0-60 mph sprint in 12 seconds before topping out at 90 mph (limited). Charging the battery pack from a 120-volt outlet will take 24 hours while from a 240-volt outlet it will take less than 5 hours.
Kia has announced sales of the 2015 Soul EV will commence in the third quarter of the year but only in New Jersey, New York, Oregon and California.
