2016 Toyota Tacoma breaks cover
The 2016 Toyota Tacoma has made its online debut ahead of next week’s public reveal at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The overhauled truck will be fully shown on January 12 and judging from these official pics we notice the styling was heavily inspired by the 4Runner while keeping the familiar design of the Tacoma intact. It has gained a prominent front grille and reshaped headlights, along with muscular fenders, some chrome accents and a revised tailgate hosting a “Tacoma” badge.
Technical details are not available at this point but chances are the 2016 Toyota Tacoma is going to be powered by a V6 4.0-liter engine outputting 270 bhp (201 kW) and a maximum torque of 376 Nm (278 lb-ft). It’s unknown at this moment whether the model is all-new or it just went through a more in-depth facelift.
Toyota has previously said the 2016 Tacoma comes with “new, rugged tech” and in this image we get to see a blue Double Cab 4×4 version equipped with a V6 engine. The Tacoma will have to face some stiff competition coming from models such as the Chevrolet Colorado and the GMC Canyon.
