Toyota has launched a more frugal version of the 2014 Highlander a few days ago at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It’s actually a hybrid derivative that looks a lot like the conventional-powered model with the exception of the added hybrid badging. Once you step inside the cabin you will notice perforated leather-wrapped seats and second row captain’s chairs while the third row bench is big enough to host three passengers. Other than that, the interior features a 4.2-inch Multi-Information Display, an Entune infotainment system, JBL sound system and a wood grain trim.
At its heart is a Hybrid Synergy Drive setup encompassing a V6 3.5-liter gasoline engine working together with an electric motor/generator. The 2014 Highlander has received an electronically-controlled CVT and also an electronic AWD system. As a result of this hardware arrangement, the car has a combined output of 280 bhp and can return an EPA-estimated 28 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
Scheduled to go on sale next February, the 2014 Toyota Highlander Hybrid will have a starting price of $47,300.
