As gas prices keep rising, more and more people are in the market for small and economical cars. One fine example would have to be this Opel Corsa 1.3 CDTI ecoFlex model which is the most frugal diesel ever made by Opel or Vauxhall. It is based on the recent generation of the 3-door Corsa and manages to return an impressive 71.3 mpg US (85.6 mpg UK or 3.3 liters / 100 km), with CO2 emissions standing at just 88 g/km.
This means that it has a 0.2 liter / 100 km lower fuel consumption and 6 g/km fewer CO2 emissions than the 2011MY. The five-door model consumes 3.4 liters / 100 km and has CO2 emissions of 89 g/km.
These modifications represent a seven percent improvement in both fuel consumption and CO2 emission figures and were possible on this Opel Corsa with the 1.3-liter turbodiesel engine thanks to the added variable displacement oil pump that delivers only the necessary oil pressure in order to diminish the necessary energy for the oil circulation. The car also uses low-viscosity transmission oil and benefits from a remapped ECU.
There’s also a revised manual transmission with updated gears and modified components which will be available on all Corsas from November. This 1.3 CDTI ecoFlex version has been fitted with 185/65 R15 low-rolling resistance tires.
That diesel engine generates 94 hp and has a peak torque of 140 lb-ft delivered between 1,750 rpm and 3,250 rpm. The car achieves the 0-62 mph sprint in 12.3 seconds and it’s able to reach a top speed of 110 mph.
