The Opel Astra TCR is making its online debut and will start racing in competitions from next year. It’s based on the latest generation 5-door hatchback but has gone through a massive weight saving program that has enabled the racecar to tip the scales at just 1,200 kg. It also has a beefier body kit which among others includes a prominent rear wing that improves the vehicle’s aerodynamic efficiency and boost downforce at the rear axle. Moreover, there’s now a race-spec braking system with 378 mm front discs coupled to six-piston calipers while at the back are 265 mm disc teamed up with two-piston calipers.
Motivation of the Opel Astra TCR is provided by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers a massive 300 PS ad a maximum torque of 420 Nm. All that power is delivered to the front axle with help from a 6-speed sequential transmission that has paddles placed on the steering wheel.
It’s important to mention the racecar has a 100-liter fuel tank which starting with the 2017 racing season will be mandatory in the TCR (Touring Car Racing) Series. This track-only Astra has also received the latest-gen dampers, a fully adjustable chassis while assistance systems like ABS and EBD are not allowed in the competition.
Deliveries of the Opel Astra TCR will kick off towards the end of February for those willing to pay €95,000 (plus VAT).
