Next-gen Volkswagen Golf VII R could get 286 hp
In September last year Volkswagen introduced the seventh-generation of the highly popular Golf so it’s only logical now for them to focus on the more potent R version which will certainly be one of the most powerful Golf ever made. Various reports are indicating the hot hatch will make use of a 2.0-liter TSI engine churning 286 hp (213 kW) and will have a peak torque of 280 lb-ft (379 Nm). Power will be transferred to the wheels with the help of a Haldex AWD system (fifth-generation) which is more responsive and lighter than the predecessor. This system made its debut recently on the Golf VII 4Motion.
Thanks to this setup, the Volkswagen Golf VII R will be able to perform the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in approximately five seconds when equipped with a dual clutch gearbox, on its way to an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
Even though it will be considerably more powerful and quicker than its predecessor, the Golf VII R should also be more fuel efficient taking into account that it will make the switch to the company’s MQB platform which could enable to vehicle to weigh 2,645 lbs (1,200 kg) and return 33.6 mpg US (40.4 mpg UK or 7 liters / 100 km).
