Ford reveals greener Focus with 99g/km CO2 emissions

The Blue Oval company will be offering a more economical version of the popular Focus which will be powered by a 3-cylinder, 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine which is capable of outputting 100 HP (73 kW). Ford says it will be the very “first petrol-powered family car in Europe to offer 99 g/km CO2 emissions” thanks to several eco-friendly tweaks such as an active shutter front grille, low-rolling resistance tires and underbody aerodynamics. In addition, it also has an engine stop/start system, regenerative brakes, as well as optimized gearing. As a result of these changes, the vehicle has returned in testing 56.2 mpg US (67.5 mpg UK or 4.1 liters / 100 km).

The frugal 2014 Ford Focus is scheduled to hit the market at the beginning of next year while pricing details will come out closer to the car’s launch. Chances are that by the time this model comes out, Ford will have already revealed the facelift Focus which could mean the eco-friendly model will also receive the Aston Martin-ish front fascia seen on the new Mondeo and the recently refreshed Fiesta.
