Meet the Ariel Atom 3.5R, an expensive track toy that can be had at a starting price of no less than 80,000 pounds. At its heart it’s the same 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine sourced from the previous generation of the Honda Civic Type R but it’s output has increased from 310 bhp to 350 bhp available at 8,400 rpm. The 40 bhp power boost was obtained after installing a different sidepod-mounted intercooler as well as by lifting boost from 7.5 to 11 psi.
Tipping the scales at just 550 kg, the Ariel Atom 3.5R needs a mere 2.5 seconds to conquer the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint and will complete the 0-100 mph (0-161 km/h) run in 6 seconds. The vehicle benefits from Öhlins springs, an adjustable limited-slip differential, 4-piston calipers for the vented disc brakes, along with TTX adjustable dampers.
