BMW has confirmed that the production version of the long-awaited i3 will be shown to the public for the first time this September with the occasion of the Frankfurt Motor Show, before going on sale a couple of months later in the United States, Europe and China. From the beginning it will be available with the optional range-extending engine which will allow the i3 to travel for up to 300 km (186 miles) while without it will do between 129 km (80 miles) and 161 km (100 km). Various sources are indicating the aforementioned range-extending engine will be a 2-cylinder gasoline mill taken from BMW’s motorcycle division.
Earlier this month during the 83rd edition of the Geneva Motor Show, the Bavarian company said those who will purchase the i3 will be able to rent a conventional-powered BMW for taking longer trips which will exceed the range capabilities of the i3. We don’t know at the moment if this service will be provided for free or if they will offer some sort of discounts.
