BMW shatters drift world record with an M5
The world record for the longest drift has been broken once again, this time by BMW. The record-breaking attempt was done by BMW Performance Center Instructor Johan Schwartz last Saturday behind the wheel of a standard M5 which came with an M-DCT gearbox and had Continental performance rubbers measuring 255/30/20 at the front and 295/30/20 for the rear wheels. He broke the previous record which was established back in February at Abu Dhabi by no less than 47.71 miles or 76.78 km since he drifted the M5 for an impressive 51.27 miles or 82.52 km.
He did this by lapping the wet BMW Performance Center skid pad for 322.5 laps, a skid pad which has a circumference of 841 feet. As a result of his accomplishment, BMW Charity Pro-Am was able to gather more than $20,000 in charity donations.
