BMW unveils 2-Series Gran Tourer
BMW has taken the wraps off the 2-Series Gran Tourer which they describe as being the “world’s first premium compact model to offer up to seven seats.” It’s basically a bigger variant of the 2-Series Active Tourer and as a result it has extended rear doors, a higher roof and a slightly different rear end. On the inside it’s the same story but the car does get an optional third row seat option and these seats can be folded in the floor. Fold down the rear seats and you get a cargo capacity of 1,950 liters (67.2 cubic feet).
BMW is offering the 2-Series Gran Tourer with a variety of turbocharged gasoline and diesel engines, starting with the 218i model equipped with a 3-cylinder 1.5-liter with 136 HP & 220 Nm. The 220i gets a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter with 192 HP & 280 Nm while on the diesel side there’s a 216d model equipped with a 3-cylinder 1.5-liter outputting 116 HP & 270 Nm. The 218d model gets a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter with 150 HP & 330 Nm while the 220d xDrive has a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter developing 190 HP & 400 Nm.
