BYD is a well-known Chinese automaker and now they have introduced the Qin hybrid on their local market. The vehicle is a plug-in hybrid capable of returning an impressive 177 MPGe (approximately 1.6 liters / 100 km) and will need just 5.9 seconds to get from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) before hitting a maximum speed of 115 mph (185 km/h). BYD says the vehicle comes with four driving modes called: EV+ECO, EV+SPORT, HEV+ECO and HEV+SPORT. The base model has a starting price at the equivalent of $32,266 and already 4,155 customers pre-order the car which is slated to reach Europe at the beginning of 2015.
Underneath the hood is a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 151 bhp and 240 Nm which is coupled to two rear-axle-mounted electric motors that have 147 bhp and 250 Nm. As a result, the BYD Qin hybrid has a combined output of 291 bhp and 479 Nm.
