Donkervoort has announced several days ago that the D8 GTO has been granted with European Small Series Type Approval which means that it will be available for sale not only in countries part of the European Union, but also in Switzerland, Russia along with the Gulf States. Production of the D8 GTO will kick off next month or in May and already 25 fully-loaded units have been ordered. The vehicle benefits from a carbon / aluminum / steel tubular hybrid chassis and body panels made from carbon fiber and fiber glass. Thanks to this setup the car weighs only 650 kg (1,653 lbs).
At its heart is an Audi-sourced 2.5-liter, 5-cylinder turbocharged engine pumping out no less than 400 HP (294 kW) and 350 lb-ft (475 Nm) of torque. It will complete the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in just 3 seconds and will keep on accelerating until it hits a top speed of 158 mph (255 km/h). Despite the impressive performance, the Donkervoort D8 GTO is capable of returning 24-28 mpg UK (10 – 12 liters / 100 km).
