At the Seoul Motor Show this year starting on March 28, Hyundai will be bringing an interesting concept that goes by the name of HND-9. The name comes from the fact that this is the ninth concept created by the firm’s research and development center located in Namyang, Korea.
In the official press release Hyundai mentions it gives us a hint about a “next-generation luxury sports coupe” which can only mean they are referring to the upcoming Genesis Coupe which should be out later this year or in 2014. The concept seen here is a rear-wheel drive car with butterfly doors and a dual exhaust system.
It also has a Lexus-like hexagonal grille, along with spiral lines connected to the headlamps. Powering the Hyundai HND-9 concept is a turbocharged 3.3-liter GDi engine capable of developing 370 HP (272 kW). The power is transferred to the rear wheels with the help of an 8-speed automatic transmission. If this setup sounds familiar, that’s because a similar hardware configuration was used by Kia in 2011 when they presented the GT concept which offered a maximum torque of 534 Nm (394 lb-ft).
