Hyundai introduces i20 Coupe in Europe
Hyundai has introduced the i20 Coupe which is programmed to go on sale in Europe in the first months of next year. The car you are looking at is actually Hyundai’s first ever three-door B-segment vehicle and is obviously based on the five-door hatchback i20 second-gen which was originally unveiled a couple of months ago at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. There are some major differences between the two as the i20 Coupe features more raked pillars and the overall appearance of the car is significantly sportier, enhanced by the 25mm lowered roofline.
Despite being sleeker than the hatchback, the 2015 Hyundai i20 Coupe comes with the same amount of room for the passengers while the cargo capacity has increased to 336 liters, representing 10 liters more than the five-door hatch. Hyundai will be selling the car with newly designed 17-inch rims and customers will have the possibility of opting for a Tangerine Orange body complemented on the inside by a similar orange theme.
The engine lineup will be carried over from the i20 hatchback so there’s going to be a 1.25-liter naturally aspirated gasoline motor with 84 HP and 122 Nm, followed by a larger 1.4-liter rated at 100 HP and 134 Nm. On the diesel side we find a 1.1-liter outputting 75 HP and 180 Nm along with a 1.4-liter outputting 90 HP and 240 Nm. Later on next year, Hyundai will offer the i20 Coupe with a newly developed three-cylinder 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine of unspecified output.
